  • Germany has become a popular study abroad destination among international students thanks to the tuition- free education offered at its public universities. And the country is definitely more affordable than a lot of its European counterparts. However, the major chunk of your expenses would be taken up by your house rent.
  • None of the public-funded universities in all the 16 states of Germany charge any tuition fee from local and foreign students, especially for undergraduate (bachelors) courses! However, at the beginning of every semester, some universities do charge a semester fee (€ 50-250) which covers administrative costs as well as the cost of your "semester ticket."
  • Free education is however limited only to public universities, for private universities charge anywhere between 15,000 - 30,000 Euros for bachelors & masters degrees.
  • Some institutes charge a "long-term fee" if you exceed your standard period of study. That is, if you are pursuing a 5 year course and for some reason you're unable to complete your studies within this stipulated time, then from the 6th year onward, you might need to pay a long-term fee of an additional 500 - 800 Euros per semester.

One of the best things about higher education in Germany is its no to low tuition fees. Most of the universities in Germany belong to the state hence they offer free or minimal fee for studies. One has to pay only administrative fees each year. If the student manages to secure a position in any of the public university, study in Germany is free for Indian students, just like students from other part of the world. Students just have to pay a nominal semester fee (around 250 to 500 Euros) per semester.There’s an option to study and work in Germany for international students.  The study visa in Germany allows you to work for 90 days or 180 half days in a year. You can also stay in Germany for a year after your graduation to find a job and if you are successful, you can even get a permanent residence permit!There are also few scholarships available for Indian students willing to study in Germany. These can be full or partial scholarships and are awarded to meritorious students based on their academic records, university and course selected and the strength of their scholarship essay.
